The Guy Carpenter Global Composite’s aggregate book value is down 18 percent for the year, relatively unchanged over the past week. The impairment of banks’ capital is still significantly worse than that of insurers.
The collective book value for the S&P Banks Index is down 35 percent for the year, posting another decline after having recovered slightly last week.
In general, the book values of both indices appear to have stabilized over the past several weeks. The possibility of continued asset-side exposure could change the situation quickly.
