Insurers and reinsurers in the United States sustained the largest shareholders’ funds declines, with a 24.6 percent fall during last year. They were followed by carriers in Europe (losing 22 percent year-over-year) and Bermuda (down 13.7 percent). UK insurance and reinsurance companies - including Lloyd’s players - experienced only a 10.9 percent drop in their shareholders’ funds in 2008.
