Hurricane Forecasts for 2011

Although cyclone activity in June and July was limited, with little damage from the four tropical storms that developed, most meteorologists continue to predict an above-average season with an increased risk of hurricane landfalls in the United States. The most recent forecasts for the 2011 season are outlined in Table 2.


Historically, it is unusual for the (re)insurance industry to experience such heavy losses before the onset of the hurricane season. All eyes are now firmly fixed on the North Atlantic as loss activity through the rest of the year will play an important role in determining the direction of the reinsurance market.
