Wildfires in Colorado, United States, June 27: Dozens of wildfires, fueled by hot temperatures, strong winds, and low humidity have been affecting parts of Colorado in what has been described as the worst fire season in the history of the state. Of particular concern is the Waldo Canyon Fire, which has doubled in size from 6,200 acres to over 15,000 acres within the last 24 hours.
6.0Mw Earthquake in Northern Italy, May 20: A strong 6.0Mw earthquake hit northern Italy at 02:03 UTC on May 20, causing severe shaking in the Emilia Romagna region and surrounding areas. Damage has been reported across Emilia Romagna, particularly to historic buildings, commercial properties and agriculture in towns and cities close to the earthquake’s epicenter.
Severe Weather in United States, April 14-15: More severe weather hit the United States on April 14 and 15, spawning dozens of tornadoes that killed at least five people and caused widespread property damage, according to reports. The National Weather Service reported a preliminary estimate of 111 tornadoes in the six states of Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota, the majority of them in Kansas.
Update: Severe Weather in United States, March 2-3: More severe weather hit central and southern regions of the United States on March 2 and 3, spawning several tornados that killed at least 39 people and caused widespread property damage, according to reports.
Severe Weather in United States, February 28-29: Severe weather hit Midwest regions of the United States on February 28 and 29, spawning several tornados that killed at least 12 people and caused widespread property damage, according to reports. The National Weather Service has reported a preliminary estimate of 30 tornados in six states (Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky).
Floods in Eastern Australia, February 6: Heavy rain has caused widespread flooding across parts of Queensland State and New South Wales State in eastern Australia, damaging hundreds of homes and businesses and forcing thousands of people to evacuate their properties. The floodwaters have reached record levels in some areas, isolating several communities.
