TS Grace to Impact Yucatan as Category 1 Hurricane, Atlantic Active with Three Storms
- Stronger Grace Results in Hurricane Watch for the Yucatan Peninsula: A track further south has resulted in less disruption to Grace while passing south of Hispaniola. After passing over Jamaica today, conditions are favorable for intensification into a category 1 hurricane before landfall close to Cancun and Cozumel, MX late Wednesday evening. By Friday, Grace will emerge into the Bay of Campeche as a tropical storm. Grace will likely strength back to hurricane status before landfall on the northern Mexico coast.
- TS Fred Makes Florida Landfall: Fred made landfall on the eastern Florida panhandle yesterday afternoon as a 65 mph strength tropical storm. Nine tornado reports and widespread rainfall of 3-6″ north into Georgia and North Carolina have transpired in the last 24 hours.
- TS Henri to Curve around Bermuda: The 8th named storm of the 2021 season, Henri was a minimal tropical storm at close approach to Bermuda. Henri will remain at sea and is not of further concern for land.
- Last Third of August Outlook: Behind the current trio of storms, a major Saharan dust outbreak looks to hamper any further tropical development over the next week.
